Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 29 : Rebel Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Rakesh Pratap Singh on Monday reiterated that he is a Ram devotee adding that the post of MLA is not important for him.
I am a Ram devotee, the post of MLA is not important for me...," said Singh. Notably, this comes after the Samajwadi Party has decided to cancel the membership of rebel MLAs.
In February, seven SP legislators voted for the BJP nominees in the Rayja Sabha poll. Rakesh Pratap Singh, one of the seven SP MLAs, voted for the BJP in the Rajya Sabha polls. He is an MLA from Gauriganj assembly seat in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency.
Launching a scathing attack against his own party, Singh questioned the SP whether raising policies within the party and talking about the interests of workers and getting respect for workers is rebellion?
"If raising policies within the party and talking about the interests of workers and getting respect for workers is rebellion, then I am a rebel. I will continue to rebel like this. I had said earlier also that if we have to make Rajya Sabha (MP), if we have to give respect to Legislative Council, then the original workers of the party, who have put in their blood and sweat to establish the party, should be respected. People coming from Delhi, Mumbai, film industry, industrialists should not be given this respect by ignoring the party workers," said Singh.
He said that workers who faced lathi-charge and were jailed for the party, will speak against all this, adding that he only spoke the truth.
"I have not rebelled against the Samajwadi Party but have only spoken the truth and I believe that the place that Samajwadi Party workers, who work hard all day and all their lives, do not get, is given to film stars or big politicians. And as far as the Rajya Sabha elections are concerned, I can never support those who are actors and politicians and sideline those who are SP workers, I cannot do that," he added.
Taking a pot-shot at SP leadership, he said, "Somebody in politics is ever ready to face any of the situations. Everything will be regulated as per the rules and regulations. Nothing will happen as per the wishes of an individual."
