Badayun (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 20 : BJP MP Sanghmitra Maurya on Wednesday condemned the horrific murder of two young siblings in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh, while also expressing her grief over the incident.
Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, the BJP MP termed the incident as 'saddening', adding, "I condemn the way two small children (brothers) were found with their throats slit. A third child, who managed to escape, also sustained injuries. This incident is reprehensible."
In the incident on Tuesday, two children were hacked to death in Badayun's Baba Colony, drawing shock and outrage among locals and across the political spectrum.
One of the alleged accused in the incident was shot dead during an exchange of fire, the police informed.
Speaking to ANI earlier, Rakesh Kumar, the inspector general of police, Bareilly, said, "There was an unfortunate incident in which two children were killed. Though a police team arrived at the scene after receiving word of the incident, the accused managed to escape. As we chased the accused, one of them opened fire at us. He was killed in retaliatory firing but the others got away. Further investigation is underway."
Commending the prompt and efficient response of the Badaun police, the MP said, "The response of the police was prompt and efficient. It was because of the alacrity shown by the police that one of the culprits was killed. It's impossible to get a hunch on what's happening behind closed doors at someone's house. If there was a way to anticipate such incidents, the police could prevent them. However, it's not possible to read someone's criminal or murderous intent beforehand. So, it's unfair to blame the police in light of this incident."
Responding to the Samajwadi Party (SP) claiming that the incident was orchestrated by the ruling BJP in the state as part of the ploy to stir up trouble close to the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP MP retorted, "Under the SP rule, from 2012 to 2017, there were more than 300 riots in the state. The Muzaffarnagar riots have still not faded from public memory. However, there has been a change for the better since and it was the BJP government that brought about this change. The state now has a double-engine government, with the Modi government at the Centre and the Yogi government in the state. (Union) Home Minister Amit bhai (Amit Shah) has already made it clear to the country that goons, mafias, and criminals, who enjoyed political patronage earlier, would be taken to task as per the law. The police in Badayun have demonstrated zero tolerance in bringing the culprits behind the double homicide to book," Maurya said.
Sharing further details on the incident, the Bareilly IGP said earlier, "The children were playing on the terrace. The accused came, waited for their chance to strike before climbing to the terrace and killing them."
Opening up on the accused, Kumar said, "The accused are aged between 25-30. We will be disclosing their details after further investigation."
The surviving brother of the two deceased children, an eyewitness to the incident, said earlier two people came to the house and took his brothers to the terrace.
Speaking to ANI, he added that the accused had tried to attack him but he pushed them away and fled.
"The man from the barber shop had come here. He took my brothers upstairs; I don't know why he killed them. He tried to attack me too, but I pushed away his knife, pushed him away and ran down. I suffered injuries in my hand and head. Two people (the accused) had come here," he said.
The father of the deceased children named Javed (brother of Sajid) as the main accused in his complaint, based on which an FIR was registered.
