Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], October 22 : All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday in an appeal to voters in Rajasthan ahead of the state assembly elections, said that he aims to ensure Prime Minister Narendra Modi never returns to power.
In a public meeting held in Rajasthan's Jaipur, the AIMIM chief said, "If your goal is to defeat PM Modi, then it is also my aim that Narendra Modi never becomes the PM again. If I ask you if you have ever voted for the BJP, you would deny it. Then how does the BJP succeed?"
He further alleged that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi are "fooling the public by acting like twin brothers".
"When BJP brings a law in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and his party never oppose it. Congress also supported the BJP regarding the UAPA law. Both Rahul Gandhi and Modi are fooling the public by acting like twin brothers. Congress party always does this by not stating the truth," he added.
Owaisi further said, "Voters of Rahul Gandhi and Ashok Gehlot also consider PM Modi as their hero. And when elections are held, they say that Owaisi is here to cut votes".
Owaisi pointed out that when the Parliament passed the Women's Reservation Bill, no one asked to include Muslim women under its provisions adding that only he opposed it.
"I opposed the law regarding triple talaq and called it a black law. We point out the weakness of the laws that PM Modi is making and we tell the public that these laws are against the poor people of the country, but Congress does not understand this. In the new assembly, the Modi government brought a law regarding women's reservation, but no one had any say about Muslim women. when I got a chance to speak, I opposed it, then I was opposed by both Congress and BJP," he said.
He added, "I am not against women because my parents have taught me that heaven lies under the feet of the mother. There have been only 22 or 30 Muslim MPs in this Lok Sabha."
Rajasthan assembly polls will be held on November 25. The 200-member house will go to polls in single-phase.
The counting of votes will take place on December 3, coinciding with the other four states: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram.
In the 2018 assembly elections in Rajasthan, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP won 73 seats in the 200-member house. Ashok Gehlot came to power with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.
