Ind vs Aus 3rd Test: Smith surpasses Kallis to score most fifty, ton in same Test match

Sydney [Australia], January 10 : Australia batsman Steve Smith on Sunday surpassed former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis to become the most fifty and century scorer in the same Test.
Smith achieved the feat against India in the ongoing third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on the penultimate day of the game.
In the second essay for Australia, Smith played a knock of 81 runs before he was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. In the first innings, the right-handed batsman amassed 131 runs at SCG.
This was the 10th time that Smith scored fifty and century in the same Test. Before this, Kallis was leading the record by scoring half-century and ton for nine times in the same Test.
Former England captain Alastair Cook is at the third spot as he scored fifty and century eight times in the same Test. Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Alan Border and Kumar Sangakkara have achieved this record seven times and they all are at fourth place.
During the course of his 81-run innings, Smith also went past David Boon to move to the ninth spot in the leading run-scorers list for Australia in Test matches.
On day three of the ongoing Pink Test, Australia bundled out India for 244 in the first innings as Pat Cummins scalped four wickets. As a result, the hosts went on to take a 94-run lead.
Navdeep Saini struck twice but Steve Smith's unbeaten 58 kept the hosts afloat in the first session on day four of the ongoing Pink Test between India and Australia on Sunday here at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
At the break, Australia has reached the score of 182/4, extending their lead to 276 runs. For Australia, Smith and Cameron Green are currently unbeaten on 58 and 20 respectively. In the first session, 79 runs were scored from 35 overs and the visitors managed to scalp two wickets.
