"It depends on the party," says Preneet Kaur on contesting Lok Sabha polls soon after joining BJP

New Delhi [India], March 14 : When asked whether she would contest Lok Sabha polls, Preneet Kaur, a suspended Congress MP and wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, said after joining the BJP that it depends on the party.
"It will depend on the party and I will abide by whatever the high command orders," said Kaur when asked if she would contest elections this time.
As per sources, she will likely to contest from the Patiala Lok Sabha seat but no official confirmation has been made regarding this.
Kaur joined the BJP in the presence of BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, leader Tarun Chugh and Sunil Jhakhar at the party's headquarters in New Delhi.
"I think PM Modi is the best person under whose leadership and with whose policies our country can make progress," She said while praising PM Modi.
"I will work for my constituency, my state and the country under the leadership of PM Modi. I had a good innings with the Congress party and I hope I'll have a better innings with the BJP. That depends on the BJP (whether she will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections or not)," said Preneet while interacting with media.
Further reacting on possible BJP-SAD alliance she said, "It will be good if it happens, but this is something between BJP high command and Akali high command. They will make a decision."
Later in the day she also met BJP national president JP Nadda after joining the party in Delhi.
Bharatiya Janata Party National Secretary Vinod Tawde welcomed Preneet Kaur into the BJP and highlighted that Kaur has proven her potential by working in various committees, whether it's regarding women empowerment or the Asian Pacific region of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
He added that when such leaders join the BJP, especially in Punjab, where sentiments against the elected government are brewing among the public, the BJP emerges as a strong party.
Tawde further said that leaders like Preneet Kaur joining the BJP will strengthen the party in Punjab and contribute to the development of Punjab, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While Kaur also expressed her gratitude as she announced her inclusion in the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Kaur stated that over the past 25 years, she had diligently served her state of Punjab and the nation in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, working towards the advancement of democracy.
She emphasized the importance of unity at this juncture to ensure India's progress on the international stage and to shape a better future. She highlighted that under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiatives like 'Viksit Bharat' are shaping India's future, ensuring its security and advancement.
