Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 19 : Congress candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur seat, Imran Masood, exuded his confidence in winning the Lok Sabha elections on Friday and said that the INDIA bloc will form the government at the Centre.
Along with Saharanpur, eight seats in western Uttar Pradesh, including Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina, Moradabad, and Rampur, are witnessing voting today in the first phase of the parliamentary elections.
"The biggest thing is that there is no bitterness. Everything is being done with love. We will win the elections. Ram is not an election issue. Ram ji will be angry with the people who are using him in the elections. Voting is underway to save the Constitution," Masood said.
"This is not the election of Imran but the election of self-respect. How can the BSP support those who are talking about changing the Constitution? INDIA bloc will form the government. It is INDIA vs NDA all over the country," he added.
Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Raghav Lakhanpal Sharma and Bahujan Samajwadi Party's candidate (BSP) Majid Ali are in the electoral fray against Congress' Imran Masood.
Notably in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BSP won the Saharanpur seat with 41.9 per cent of the vote share. BJP candidate touched the mark of 40.1 per cent and the Congress reached 16.9 per cent of vote share.
Imran Masood is the nephew of nine-term MP (five-time Lok Sabha and four-term Rajya Sabha member) Rashid Masood, who received immense support from different castes of Hindus during his long political career.
In the 2019 elections, turning the arithmetic of the SP-BSP 'Mahagatbandhan' in Uttar Pradesh upside down, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal (S) won 64 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats. The partners in the alliance, Akhilesh Yadav's SP and Mayawati's BSP, could only muster 15 seats.
