Jul 23, 2024

New Delhi [India], July 23 : Congress leader Randeep Surjewala termed the Union Budget 2024-25 as "jhunjhuna budget" and alleged that there is no relief for farmers while weaker sections such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs have been ignored.
He said the first budget of the NDA government in its third term is disappointing.
"This is Jhunjhuna Budget. There is nothing for farmers in this budget, whether it is about MSP guarantee, taxes on fertilizers and pesticides, or loan waiver. There is no way forward for agriculture," he said.
He alleged that there is no measure to create new jobs and provision for industrial training will not solve the problem.
Surjewala claimed that there is nothing for the unorganised sector which generates 70 percent of employment and for labour-intensive sectors such as construction, textiles and leather goods.
The Congress leader alleged that BJP-led government is taking revenge from people for the results of Lok Sabha elections in which the BJP did not get full majority. He termed the budget as "badla lo, sarkar bachao budget".
He said middle class have not got any relief.
The Congress leader alleged that the government has neglected different regions in this budget and claimed that announcements for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh will be delivered after years.
He alleged that states such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana, where BJP did not get desired results in Lok Sabha polls, did not find mention in the budget speech.
"Telangana and Karnataka have Congress governments, they (BJP-led government) behaved as if these are not part of the country. The funds they have allocated to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh are just 'jhunjhuna' because it will be given after five years," Surjewala alleged
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
