J-K: Baramulla Police crackdowns on drug smuggling, 343 arrested till August

Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 1 : In its efforts to eradicate the menace of drug smuggling in the state, Kashmir's Baramulla Police have registered 213 cases, arrested 343 drug peddlers, till August this year, according to an official release.
Moreover, the Baramulla Police have arrested a total of 289 people under the NDPS Act and 54 under the PIT NDPS/PSA Act, according to a press release by the Baramulla Police.
The properties of drug smugglers frozen till August 2023 by the Baramulla Police are worth Rs 2.1 crore, which includes 3 houses, 3 vehicles, and cash worth Rs 1.2 crore.
Besides, the police have also seized contraband worth more than Rs 12 crore.
Earlier on August 25, as many as 54 notorious drug peddlers were booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS Act) and also under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Baramulla district, said officials.
Earlier, Baramulla Police attached properties worth 68.65 lakhs of drug smugglers which include two houses, three vehicles and cash to the tune of Rs 41.72 lakhs in Pattan, Kreeri and Kamalkote.
Local people in the area hailed the initiative of Baramulla Police with regard to the attachment of moveable/ immovable property that has been raised/ used for illicit trafficking by the drug smugglers in the district.
People showed their willingness to support police efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, which is the real sign of police public relations, the release further stated.
