Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 24 : Jammu Police have successfully resolved the case of abduction and murder of Mangal Singh, a cab driver from Jammu, by apprehending a gang of interstate criminals from Ratia Fatehbad, Haryana, the police said.
The police were able to recover Mangal Singh's body from the Bajalta Morh area in Nagrota following the gang's disclosure.
The case began when a missing report was filed on August 19, 2024, by Mangal Singh's brother after he failed to return home from Katra.
On August 21, the case was escalated with the filing of an FIR No. 228/2024 under Section 140 BNS, when it was suspected that Mangal Singh had been abducted, based on CCTV footage.
Jammu Police, led by SHO Nagrota and SHO Jhajjar Kotli and closely supervised by SP Rural Jammu, meticulously collected and analysed CCTV footage from various locations, along with call data records and hotel records in Katra. This investigation led them to a crucial technical lead, said the police.
Following this, the police team led by SHO Nagrota travelled to Sirsa, Haryana, where they, with the assistance of the local police and counter-intelligence unit, conducted raids at multiple locations.
They successfully apprehended 11 accused involved in the crime and also recovered the snatched vehicle from their possession.
The gang conspired in Katra to abduct Mangal Singh and, with criminal intent, brutally murdered him near Bajalta, where they later disposed of his body. The body was recovered in the presence of the victim's family and prominent local members. Following the postmortem, the body was handed over to his legal heirs for the last rites, said the police.
