J-K: Wildlife Dept issues shot-at-sight order for man-eater leopard in Udhampur

Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 11 : The Wildlife Warden of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a shot-at-sight order for a leopard who is responsible for killing a four-year-old girl in Udhampur district.
District Magistrate Saloni Rai said “On September 2 a minor girl aged 4 years named Tanu was killed by a leopard after that wildlife department tried hard to capture the man-eater leopard through trapping by cages, tranquilizing gun, search with the help of drones, all these attempts have not been successful despite deputing specific teams of the Wildlife Protection Department, but on September 9, in the same locality the same leopard again injured another minor child. In view of this regional Wildlife Warden, Jammu has issued a shot at sight order.”
She added that the Police also provided all the assistance to the Wildlife Department. She also appealed to the general public that they remain alert and that if anybody sees the leopard rooming near their house or sees any mark where the leopard recently attacked they must inform the police and Wild Life Department.
It needs to be mentioned here that more than 10 villages situated in the Panchari block of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district have been gripped by fear due to the presence of a leopard that has turned into a man-eater.
This leopard has sown terror in the region. Fear has enveloped the minds of children, dissuading them from attending school and farmers are venturing out to the fields in groups for safety.
Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department from September 2 launched massive search operations to capture the wild leopard using Drones in various areas where there is the possibility of the presence of the Leopard.
