Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 15 : Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar virtually inaugurated Samvidhan Mandir at 433 Industrial Training Institutes across Maharashtra from the premises of the institution.
Dhankhar presided over the inauguration of Samvidhan Mandir at Elphinstone Technical High School and Jr. College in Mumbai today.
While addressing the event, Dhankhar said that it was his great fortune that during the implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations in 1990, he was a minister at the Centre.
"Baba Saheb was awarded the Bharat Ratna on 31st March 1990. It was my good fortune that I was a member of the Lok Sabha at that time. It was given late but justice was done because Baba Saheb always took care that justice was done to those who were deprived. Another important issue is related to the thoughts of Baba Saheb. For ten years after the Mandal Commission report was released, there were two Prime Ministers in the country, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, but not even a leaf moved on that report," he said.
"The foundation of social justice was laid firmly by Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in the form of a fundamental right. The Mandal Commission recommendations were implemented in August 1990 and it was my great fortune that I was a minister at the Centre at that time. I got the opportunity to be a part of these two events, which were close to the heart of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and were the soul of the Constitution. This will remain in my memory for life," the Vice President added.
Later, the Vice President and Sudesh Dhankhar planted saplings in memory of their mothers, late Kesari Devi and late Bhagwati Devi, at the premises of Ramdeobaba University in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
