Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], November 21 : Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "appeasement" remark on the grand old party and called the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders "jhooth ke saudagar" (dealers of lies).
"They are 'jhooth ke saudagar'. The truth is that the two accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder were arrested four hours after the incident. Both of his sons were given government jobs. The case was handed over to the NIA. We want to know what the NIA has done in this case. Can the BJP tell why the two accused (in the Kanhaiya Lal murder) were members of the BJP's minority cell? The whole country knows why you bring Yogi Adityanath and Himanta Biswa Sarma to campaign in polls," said Supriya Shrinate.
Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, was beheaded inside his shop in Udaipur by two assailants in broad daylight on June 28, last year, for allegedly posting content in support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma.
The incident came on the heels of Sharma's suspension from the BJP for an alleged rant against the Prophet. The beheading of the Udaipur tailor sent shockwaves across the country and sparked a public outcry.
The case was initially registered at Dhanmandi police station in Udaipur but was later re-registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on June 29, 2022.
Earlier on Monday, PM Modi accused the Congress Party of "corruption" and "appeasement politics," stating that dynasty politics is everything for them.
Appealing to people to vote for the BJP in the November 25 Assembly elections in Rajasthan, PM Modi, addressing an election rally in Pali, pointed out that the state needs a government that gives priority to development. The PM said that Rajasthan will play a "very big" role in taking India to new heights in the 21st century.
Continuing his attack against Congress, the prime minister said," Nothing is more important than corruption and familial politics for Congress. This party doesn't think of anything other than appeasement politics."
"Unfortunately, the development of the state was stalled under the five years of Congress rule," PM Modi alleged.
The Prime Minister said the people of the state have "experienced" the "impact" of appeasement politics in the last five years of Congress rule.
The Congress leader further asserted that, under the leadership of Ashok Gehlot, excellent work has been done in Rajasthan, and based on that, we are asking for votes from the people of the state.
"We are in power in Rajasthan. We had a track record of work. We have worked hard and are asking for votes based on that. The Rajasthan government, under the leadership of Ashok Gehlot, has done excellent work. BJP leaders come here and do appeasement and make baseless allegations," Shrinate said in Jaipur.
Rajasthan will go to the polls on November 25, and the counting of votes will be held on December 3 along with the other four states - Mizoram, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP finished at 73 seats in the 200-member House. Gehlot took the oath as CM with the support of BSP MLAs and independent legislators.
