Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], April 1 : Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma hit out at the Congress party in the state on Monday and said that senior Congress party leader and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has been "exposed" in Chhindwara seat and that the people of the constituency had decided to put the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in power in the ensuing elections.
"I welcome Mayor Vikram Ahake and all the other leaders who joined the BJP. Kamal Nath has been exposed in Chhindwara. In the reports of the IT department, everyone is corrupt in Congress office. The people of Chhindwara have decided to put BJP in power in the upcoming elections. People will answer them (Congress) in the upcoming polls after their comments on tribal communities," said the State BJP chief.
In a major setback to the Congress ahead of Lok Sabha elections, former Congress leader and Chhindwara Municipal Corporation Mayor Vikram Ahake joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and State BJP President VD Sharma on Monday morning.
Speaking to ANI, Vikram Ahake said, "The country and the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav are working towards bringing all sections together, "Sabka Sath Sabka Vishwas". Inspired by the actions, policies, and welfare schemes I have decided to work under their leadership. It is a matter of great happiness that the BJP welcomed us wholeheartedly."
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also spoke on the occasion and alleged that former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath had caused huge "damage" to Chhindwara.
He also claimed that Vikram Ahake had joined the BJP due to the objectionable comments passed on to the tribal communities by Kamal Nath and his son and Congress leader Nakul Nath.
Although the Congress failed to emerge victorious in the Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly elections, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath secured a win from the Chhindwara assembly constituency.
According to the figures released by the Election Commission, Kamal Nath managed to garner 1,32,302 votes, defeating the BJP candidate Vivek Bunty Sahu by a margin of 36,594 votes.
Chhindwara is one of the assembly seats and districts of Madhya Pradesh and is also one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
Last month, Congress leader Syed Jafar, a close aide of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, joined the BJP.
Jafar took the membership of the BJP party in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, BJP state president VD Sharma and others at the state BJP office in Bhopal.
