Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 8 : Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh who lost the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency to actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, condemned the incident in which the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party MP was allegedly slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at Chandigarh airport but maintained that calling someone a "terrorist" by making a generalised statement is not right as well.
The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department Minister who is the son of six-time Chief Minister Late Virbhadra Singh advised Kangana to be responsible while making any statements. Singh said that making a generalized statement on the basis of isolated incidents is not right.
"I have already condemned the incident. It was an unfortunate incident. This kind of incident is unfortunate against a woman. It is not in our culture. It was unfortunate whatever happened to the farmers as well but this is not the way to take up your issue. Action must be taken against whatever happened at the Airport premises...you can't call someone a terrorist on the basis of isolated incidents. You have to be responsible while making any such statements," Singh said on Saturday.
Kangana was allegedly slapped by a CISF woman constable while she was headed to Delhi for the NDA meeting. An FIR has been lodged against the constable under IPC sections 321 and 341, but no arrest has been made. Hours after the incident, Kangana released a video on her official Instagram page, where she narrated the details and expressed concern over "rising terrorism and extremism in Punjab."
The PWD Minister who is also the legislator of Shimla Rural Assembly segment held a review meeting with Congress workers and office bearers of his party in the assembly and assessed his loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
"We have called a meeting of the Shimla rural area, all office bearers of the party and all Panchayati raj and others have gathered here to review the poll defeat of the party," the Congress leader said.
Singh said that the "Modi wave" was not functional at the national level in this election, though it has partly worked in Himachal Pradesh.
"Though at the national level, the Modi factor did not work, it has partially worked in Himachal Pradesh. It is clear that in the national perspective, the Modi wave is no more relevant. The government is being formed and at the national level we shall see a big change," Singh said.
The Congress leader said that all the issues of the state pending with the Central government will be taken up and development work will start in towns like Dharamshala ,Shimla, Palampur and in Mandi.
"We shall also take up and see how the pending issues of Himachal Pradesh will be taken up, during the floods there were huge losses in the state. I want to assure the people of the state that all matters would be taken up," Singh said.
"Yesterday we met with the officials of the World Bank. Development work will be taken up in the towns of Dharamshala, Shimla, Palampur and in Mandi...I shall meet the Ministers concerned in the new government and we are confident enough for the overall development of the state," the Congress Minister added.
Kangana defeated Vikramaditya Singh by a margin of more than five lakh votes from Mandi in the recently held Lok Sabha polls. The BJP has swept the hill state in this election.
