Gadag (Karnataka) [India], July 28 :Cooperation from the Karnataka government is crucial for delivering central government schemes to the people, but the state government is not undertaking development work and is blaming the central government, according to former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised for party workers and voters of the Ron Assembly constituency on Sunday, Bommai said seven years ago, the central government had approved a Kendriya Vidyalaya (central school) in Gadag city. However, due to the apathy of local political leaders, the school was not established because of location issues. The state government is only interested in criticising the central government, instead of addressing its own failures.
Bommai further said that the state government is pointing fingers at the central government without inviting tenders for any development work. It is spreading misinformation about the central government, claiming that they would change the constitution; it was the Congress government that imposed an emergency and misused Rs. 25,000 crore meant for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
"This time, the railway allocation for Karnataka had been Rs. 7,328 crore. For the Sagarmala project, Rs. 700 crore, and Karnataka's share in taxes is Rs. 44,485 crore. The five schemes of Modi, which include roads, rural development, education and employment, must be fulfilled for poverty eradication in the country. Our central government is working towards this," Bommai added.
"Beyond the central government's schemes, I am always ready to undertake developmental work in my constituency. The dream of many decades for the people here is to convert the Ilkal to Kaiga route into a national highway, which is beneficial for many taluks in my Lok Sabha constituency. I have proposed this to the Union Minister of National Highways, Nitin Gadkari. This week, you will hear good news. We have set a target of constructing 3 crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Overall, fulfilling the tasks assigned by those who elected me is my duty," he stated.
The ceremony was held in the premises of former minister Kalakappa Bandi's office in the presence of former minister Kalakappa Bandi, BJP District President Raju Kuradagi and other officials.
