Kerala BJP chief slams state government for celebrating 'nine years of failure'

Thrissur (Kerala) [India], April 23 : Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has criticised the state government, calling the nine-year celebration of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan a celebration of "failures."
Speaking during his visit to Thrissur, Chandrasekhar said, "The main point that I'm making when I'm travelling around Kerala is how a government celebrates nine years of failures. I can understand a government that has done something for its people and celebrates its successes. But this communist government has failed on all fronts."
He claimed that the Kerala government is unable to provide even Rs.100 to ASHA workers, pensions are not paid on time, and salaries of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) workers are often delayed. He also said there is no investment in infrastructure.
Chandrasekhar questioned the use of public money for the celebration, saying, "About Rs 100 crore of public money is being spent on a celebration, while the people of Kerala are struggling. No one is celebrating except Pinarayi Vijayan and his party. People want to see a change in government at the earliest."
Chandresekhar's remarks come at a time when the state government has announced several events to mark nine years of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in power.
Additionally, on April 19, Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader VD Satheesan accused the Pinarayi-led CPI(M) of extensive spending on the government's fourth anniversary celebrations.
"The Kerala government is celebrating its four years. The opposition in Kerala is going to boycott these celebrations because this government doesn't deserve to celebrate its four years," Satheesan said.
"The state is going through the largest fiscal crisis in its history. The treasury is almost closed. All social welfare measures are stalled. The government is spending Rs. 15 crores on the hoardings of the CM's photo alone," the Congress leader said.
