Kerala: Body of man suspected to be trampled by elephant found; tusker pushed back into forest

Kannur (Kerala) [India], October 12 : Kannur Forest Department chased away a wild elephant that entered the residential area of Ulikkal on Wednesday. Officials informed that the body of a man suspected to be trampled by the wild elephant was recovered from near the area where the tusker was spotted.
The deceased has been identified as Jose, a native of Athrassery. His found was found in the forest in severely injured state.
"The deceased Jose, a native of Athrassery, was found on the forest path with many wounds. The man was injured by the elephant," per the statement by forest official.
According to the officials, the wild elephant also caused a lot of destruction in the area and it is believed that the man died due to attack by the wild jumbo.
"The wild elephant that strayed into the residential areas of Ulikkal on Wednesday has retreated into the forest, said the officials.
After the forest officials received the information about the elephant, a team was deployed to scare away the tusker.
Also, it has come to the fore that as many as six people have been injured in an attempt to flee from the wild elephant's attack.
The forest officials restored to using firecrackers and other unharmful means to scare away the animal back to the forest.
