Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], September 1 : Kerala opposition leader V D Satheesan on Friday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan demanding the cancellation of the reappointment of IHRD officer Nandakumar for insulting Achu Oommen, daughter of late Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, on social media.
IHRD administrative officer Nandakumar was reappointed to IHRD a month ago after he retired from the Secretariat last year. In the letter to the CM, V D Satheesan urged Nandakumar to be removed from his present post for flagrant violation of service rules. V D Satheesan said that through a cyberattack against Achu on social media, Nandakumar has violated service rules.
Attacking the police, V D Satheesan said that the police were not doing their duty as they had not yet started an investigation into the case despite Achu Oommen having already registered a complaint and the police having recorded her statement. In the letter to the CM, V D Satheesan expressed doubts about whether Nadakumar is being protected by the ruling CPI (M) and whether the ruling party is also protecting him from the police investigation.
"It is an insult to the government to protect a criminal who has insulted womanhood and questioned and abused a woman's self-respect," the letter read.
"If the Chief Minister is sincere in his pro-women stance, Nandakumar should be dismissed from service and a criminal case should be filed against him," said the opposition leader in the letter.
After the by-election was declared in the Puthupally constituency due to the death of Ommen Chandy MLA, a war of words erupted on social media, where candidates and their family members were allegedly involved in using defamatory remarks against each other. After some posts on Facebook were shared against Achu Oommen, it triggered a controversy.
Even though Nandakumar offered a public apology, Achu Oommen filed a complaint and approached the cyber police about his defamatory remarks.
