Kolkata doctor rape-murder: IMA Goa to stage protest tomorrow in Panaji

Panaji (Goa) [India], August 16 : The Indian Medical Association (Goa Branch) will conduct a protest march here tomorrow (August 17) demanding justice for the doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The protesters will also highlight women's safety at workplaces. The protest will start from Azad Maidan Panaji at 9.00 am. From there, they will proceed with a silent march towards the Old GMC Complex near ESG where the rally will end, said the organisers.
The Indian Dental Association Goa, Goa pvt Dentist Association, Goa Ayurvedic Association, Goa Nursing Association, Indian Pharmaceutical Association Goa, Goa Chemist and Druggist Association, and Goa Medical Representative Association will also join in the protest.
Goa Association of Resident Doctors, Goa Medical College Students Council and Medical Students Network have supported the IMA Goa State initiative.
"We request all women's organisations and those who demand a safe workplace environment for women must come in large numbers at Azad Maidan Panaji by 9 am tomorrow," said IMA Goa.
Meanwhile, doctors across the nation intensified their protests over the incident.
Junior doctors and medical students at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad staged a protest on Friday.
In Delhi, junior doctors and medical students at RML Hospital staged a protest.
A 12-hour general strike was called in Siliguri on Friday by the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) over the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.
A nationwide withdrawal of services has been announced by doctors of modern medicine starting from 6 am on Saturday, August 17 to 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 18, per the official statement released by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday.
On Thursday, police said that a mob of between 5,000 and 7,000 people, including several individuals invaded RG Kar Hospital, attacked protesting doctors and medical students, and attempted to ransack the premises on the night of August 14.
The postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered on August 9.
