Drass (Ladakh) [India], August 26 : In Ladakh, Drass has been officially declared a new district, a move that has been met with widespread celebration.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Fayaz Ahmad Qari expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for fulfilling this long-standing demand of the area.
"Today is a very big day for us as Drass has been declared as a district by PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The people of Drass have always protected the country by becoming soldiers and we will continue to do so," Qari told ANI.
He also extended his thanks to the local BJP leadership in Ladakh for their continuous efforts in advocating for this cause.
Following the announcement, BJP Drass members organised a celebratory event to welcome Fayaz Ahmad Qari at Drass.
The community gathered in large numbers to mark this historic moment, recognizing the new district status as a major milestone in the region's development.
Drass is one of the five new districts announced by Home Minister Amit Shah, a decision that is expected to bring increased administrative focus and development opportunities to the area.
Fayaz Ahmad Qari said that the announcement has sparked a wave of optimism among the residents, who see this as a pivotal step towards greater progress and recognition for Drass.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs instructed the Union Territory (UT) administration to establish a committee for evaluating various aspects related to the new districts to ensure that all details are carefully reviewed and addressed.
The committee will evaluate various aspects related to these new districts-- Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang-- such as headquarters, boundaries, structure, creation of posts, and any other aspect related to the formation of the districts and submit its report within three months.
After receiving the committee's report, the Union Territory of Ladakh will send a final proposal to the MHA for further action based on this report. The move comes amid the declaration to create five new districts within Ladakh- a significant step towards transforming the UT into a developed and prosperous region.
