"Leaders from INDIA bloc have low mentality": BJP MP slams Udhayanidhi Stalin

New Delhi [India], September 21 : Reacting to DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's remark about President Droupadi Murmu not receiving an invitation to the inauguration of the new Parliament building, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar said on Thursday that the leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) have "low mentality".
"Leaders from the INDIA bloc have the same low mentality that's why they raised this issue. Who gave Droupadi Murmu the most respected post? We gave her so much respect. Who are they to raise this issue?" Sarkar told ANI.
This comes after Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday claimed that President Droupadi Murmu was not invited during the inauguration of the new building of the Parliament as she is a “widow and belongs to the tribal community”.
“The new Parliament building was inaugurated. They (BJP) got the Adheenams from Tamil Nadu for the inauguration, but the President of India was not invited because she is a widow and is from a tribal community. Is this Sanatan Dharma? We will continue to raise our voice against it,” he said.
When asked about the statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Other Backward Classes (OBC) in bureaucracy, Sarkar said that the BJP does not do this kind of politics.
"BJP does not do this kind of politics. On this, the Home Minister has presented the full facts of how many OBC people are there. Our Prime Minister himself is from the OBC community," the BJP MP said.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday extended his support to the Women's Reservation Bill adding that the measure was "incomplete" as it lacks quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC).
"The moment the opposition raises the issue of caste census and Adani, the BJP tries to raise a new event so that the OBC community and the people of India look the other way. In my research for the speech, I took a look at the different institutions that define how our country moves forward. There are many-- Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Vidhan Sabha bureaucracy, the press. And I look with an eye to understand what is the participation of the OBC community in these institutions,” Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha.
He further mentioned that he was shocked to find out that out of 90 secretaries in the government of India, only three are OBCs.
"I was shocked to find out that out of 90 secretaries in govt of India, only three are OBCs. These secretaries only control 5 per cent of the budget. If the country's budget is 44 lakh crore then 2.4 lakh crore controls it," Congress MP said.
