New Delhi [India], September 17 : On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced on Tuesday the recording of ownership rights for agricultural land in urbanised villages of the capital based on inheritance.
According to an official release, this decision will positively impact the lives of millions of Delhi residents and address a long-pending demand from people who have been denied their rightful inheritance since 2010.
LG Saxena, who has been regularly visiting villages in the capital, received this demand and related grievances in every village he visited. Several civic organisations have also made similar demands.
The release noted that during a 'Samvaad' held at Raj Niwas with residents of the capital's villages, mutation emerged as the primary concern. A delegation of all seven MPs from Delhi had met the LG and submitted a representation on the issue.
The LG also laid the foundation stone for 41 new projects and inaugurated 7 projects across 18 villages in North-West Delhi under the Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan (DGA). During the event, the Namo Drone Didi Scheme and domestic PNG connections in 21 villages of North-West Delhi were also inaugurated.
Speaking at the event, LG Saxena said, "Today is Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji's birthday, and this day will be remembered as a historic one for the villages of Delhi. I want to inform you that from today onwards, the mutation of agricultural land in urbanised villages in Delhi based on inheritance will now be conducted by the revenue authorities, as was done earlier."
He further stated that the process will begin with camps set up in the villages this week.
On this occasion, sports icons Sharad Kumar, silver medallist in high jump at the 2024 Paralympics, and Ravi Dahiya, silver medallist wrestler at the 2020 Olympics, were also felicitated.
The Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan, launched in December 2023, aims to provide better amenities to rural Delhi.
The release highlighted that, to date, 573 projects worth Rs 523 crore have been sanctioned, with funds of about Rs 960 crore transferred to the DDA for development works in various villages.
"Of these, 89 projects are being executed by the DDA. While the DDA is the nodal agency, it is working in collaboration with various civic agencies like the MCD, I&FC, etc., to implement the projects effectively," it said.
Earlier this month, the LG launched 22 projects in 18 villages in South-West Delhi, while last week he laid foundation stones for 47 projects in 29 villages in North Delhi.
The development works launched today will cover villages in North-West Delhi under the subdivisions of Kanjhawala, Rohini, and Saraswati Vihar.
The foundation stone was laid for several projects in these villages, including the renovation, repair, and upgrade of chaupals/public buildings/baarat ghars/community halls, road/lane and drainage improvements, and the repair and renovation of cremation grounds.
