Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 9 : Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that "appeasement" remarks made against the opposition parties were "lies and completely fake".
He said that the Prime Minister didn't answer the questions raised by the Congress and repeated what his party leaders had presented in the Parliament. Hussain questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) support of the Waqf bill in 1995 and 2013.
"PM Narendra Modi's statements are lies and completely fake. He tried to repeat the things that his leaders had presented in Parliament. He did not answer the questions that we raised. At least mention any instance of appeasement. If it is really about appeasement, why did the BJP support this bill in 1995 and 2013?" Hussain told ANI.
His reaction comes after PM Modi on Tuesday accused Congress of engaging in "appeasement politics" and said that Waqf legislation will ensure dignity for all, especially the marginalised.
Meanwhile, Pawan Khera also lashed out at PM Modi over the latter's accusation of "appeasement politics" against Congress, saying that his party always engaged in "santushtikaran" for every section of society.
"Congress ne har warg ke santushtikaran ka kaam kiya hai...tushtikaran ka kaam kabh nahi kiya. The day the Prime Minister understands that the Congress has satisfied every section of the society. It has never indulged in appeasement. That day, perhaps, he will learn to run the government," Khera told ANI.
He further accused the BJP of being "against the constitution" from the times of Hindu Mahasabha and Jana Sangh.
"The Congress has walked on the path of the Constitution and will continue to do so. The BJP has been against the constitution since its inception - from the times of Sangh, Jana Sangh, Hindu Mahasabha and is against it even today," Khera said.
Addressing the News18 Rising Bharat Summit, PM Modi said those who thought that India would progress slowly and steadily will now witness a fast and fearless India. He said that when growth is driven by aspirations, it becomes inclusive and sustainable.
PM Modi said "appeasement politics" has been a significant challenge to India's growth. Referring to the recent amendment to the Waqf-related laws passed by Parliament, the Prime Minister noted that the debate surrounding Waqf stems from the politics of appeasement, which is not a new phenomenon.
