Lok Sabha elections: Cash, liquor, drugs worth Rs 440.32 cr seized in West Bengal ahead of last phase of polling

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 31 : The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal announced on Friday that a total of Rs 440.32 crore worth of items, including cash, liquor, drugs, and various goods, were recovered by police in West Bengal from March 3 to May 31.
West Bengal CEO in an official statement said that the police seized a total of Rs 440.32 crore worth of items in West Bengal from March 3 to May 31.
"The items recovered by police include Rs 34.97 crore in cash, Rs 110.50 crore in liquor, Rs 47.80 crore in drugs, Rs 78.10 crore in precious metals, Rs 91.42 crore in freebies, and Rs 77.64 crore in other items," the CEO said in his statement.
Meanwhile, the police have seized 707 arms/weapons, 1164 cartridges, 852.86 kg of explosives, and 1605 bombs since March 16.
Polling in West Bengal began on April 19, and the first six phases of the election have already been held. The seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha will be held on June 1 in Kolkata North, Basirhat, Barasat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata South, and Mathurapur Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal.
The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC won 34 seats in the state, while the BJP secured 2 seats. The CPI (M) won 2 seats, while the Congress bagged 4.
However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won 18 seats against the TMC's 22. The Congress's tally dropped to just 2 seats, and the Left was unable to secure any seats.
