LS polls: MCD offers eye-popping discounts at eateries, shops to push voter turnout

New Delhi [India], April 23 : To ensure a robust turnout and polling numbers in the Lok Sabha elections, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has adopted a raft of measures, including offering eye-popping discounts at various restaurants and markets.
Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal has offered shoppers, who get their fingers inked on May 25, the date of polling for the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, a 10 per cent discount at establishments registered with it. The shoppers can avail this one-time offer on May 27, a couple of days after polling for the NCT of Delhi concludes.
Similarly, Vyapar Mandal C-4-E Janakpuri Market, buying into the initiative to promote voter awareness and enhance voter participation in the upcoming elections, has decided that those exercising their right of franchise will be entitled to a 5 per cent discount on their purchases at the market.
Several commercial establishments in the West Delhi zone have decided to give their patrons discounts, varying from 10 per cent to 20 per cent, if they turn out to vote in the upcoming general elections.
Restaurants affiliated with NRAI (National Restaurant Association of India) have also announced a 20 per cent discount for voters, on producing their IDs and flashing their inked finger.
Similarly, the authorities Select City Walk Mall, Saket has asked the various commercial establishments that it houses to offer discounts for visitors who vote.
Various establishments in the Keshavpuram zone, too, have enlisted their involvement in the initiative to push up the polling numbers in the national capital this year. They have offered 20-30 per cent discount to voters on their purchases.
Radisson Blu Hotel in the Dwarka area of Najafgarh Zone has announced that those exercising their franchise will be entitled to avail 50 per cent discounts on lunch buffet and 30 per cent on dinner buffet on May 25.
Polling for seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital will be held in a single phase on May 25.
