Maharashtra: Foreign national arrested at Mumbai airport with Gold worth over Rs 1.6 crore

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 2 : The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) apprehended a foreign national, Sahara Mohammed Omar, at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Sunday for smuggling approximately 3.4 kg of gold, said customs officials.
The seized gold valued at around Rs 1.63 crore was concealed in her clothing and worn on her body, said officials.
According to the officials, Sahara is a Kenyan citizen who had arrived from Nairobi via Kenya Airways flight on Sunday morning.
She holds a passport issued by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, added the officials.
The officials further said that Mumbai Customs registered a case against the woman and took her to the Mahila Court from where she was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Earlier, on Friday, the Customs Department at Maharashtra's Nagpur International Airport seized gold worth Rs 2.10 crore concealed in a coffee maker.
According to a customs official, a passenger coming from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) concealed the gold in a coffee maker.
Based on profiling, a passenger was intercepted and recovery of crude gold weighing 3.497 kg, valued Rs 2.01 crore was made, said officials.
