"Malicious campaign against Rahul Gandhi": KC Venugopal attacks BJP
Sep 10, 2024
New Delhi [India], September 10 : Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Tuesday termed the BJP's attack on Rahul Gandhi a 'malicious campaign', adding that BJP's only agenda is to target Rahul Gandhi.
Notably, this comes after Rahul Gandhi's 'Sikh' remark and his statement against BJP in US.
"They have only one agenda--that is to target Rahul Gandhi. Let them do whatever they want. But the people of Bharat are with Rahul Gandhi. People of the country know about him and also the BJP. This type of malicious campaign against Rahul Gandhi... BJP will understand that the people of India are not buying this argument," he told reporters.
KC Venugopal was responding to queries about the BJP's reaction to the remarks Rahul Gandhi made during his visit to the United States.
Rahul Gandhi's remarks in the United States evoked a sharp reaction from the BJP leaders, where he said that today the fight in India is whether a Sikh person will be able to wear his turban, kada, and visit Gurdwara.
"First of all, you have to understand what the fight is about. The fight is not about politics. It is superficial. What is your name? The fight is about whether he, as a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India. Or he as a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear a kada in India. Or a Sikh is going to be able to go to Gurdwara. That's what the fight is about and not just for him, for all religions," Rahul Gandhi had said.
In response, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said, "Britishers have gone but left their mindset to the Congress people. They want to divide the nation based on caste, religion, or region. It's their strategy to go abroad and malign the country's image. Whenever Rahul Gandhi has gone abroad, he has always maligned the image of the country. Rahul Gandhi ji, this would do nothing. Taking funds from China and opinions from Pakistan would do nothing. The people of this nation will cast their vote, and they have rejected Congress."
Joining his party leader, Assam Chief Minister and Jharkhand co-election in-charge, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Tuesday alleged Rahul Gandhi's purpose of going to the United States is to 'defame' India.
Further, Congress MP continued his tirade against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that the "fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi" among people had vanished after Lok Sabha elections 2024 results were declared.
Rahul Gandhi, arrived in Dallas, US, on Sunday. He interacted with students and teachers at the University of Texas and also addressed the members of the Indian diaspora in Dallas and Virginia.
