New Delhi [India], February 6 : Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday warned the youth to not "fall prey" to the alleged "lies" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the future of the country remains dark in the hands of the BJP government.
"I want to warn the youth of the country not to fall prey to Modiji's lies, read the history of the country and avoid RSS propaganda. What will a person who lives only in history create for the present and the future?" Kharge said in a post on X.
He said that PM Modi was blaming Congress instead of talking about issues including unemployment, inflation, falling rupee and economic inequality.
"The future of the country is dark in the hands of this government. Instead of talking about unemployment, inflation, economic inequality, recession, falling rupee, falling private investment and the failed 'Make in India', Modi only kept blaming the Congress," he added.
Accusing the Prime Minister of "distorting facts" in Rajya Sabha, Kharge said that the first amendment to the constitution was made to provide reservation to backward classes and to abolish landlordism by bringing in land reforms.
"The first amendment to the Constitution was made so that reservation could be given to backward classes and landlordism could be abolished. Through this amendment, the 9th Schedule was added to the Constitution, land reforms were carried out and landlordism was abolished. Through this amendment, Article 15 (4) was added to the Constitution, due to which SC, ST, and later, OBC could get a reservation in employment and education," the Congress president said.
Responding to allegations regarding Congress making efforts to defeat Babasaheb Ambedkar in elections, Kharge said that his party made MR Jayakar resign from Mumbai to bring Dr Ambedkar to the constituent assembly.
"Congress made its member MR Jayakar resign from Mumbai to bring Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar to the Constituent Assembly. Dr Ambedkar himself wrote a letter revealing that SA Dange and Savarkar were responsible for his defeat," Kharge said.
Giving credit to Congress for creating the middle class, the Congress president said that the process of liberalisation started with Indira Gandhi and concluded with other Prime Ministers from the party.
"The truth is that Congress did the liberalisation - this work started with Indira Gandhi and was completed by Rajiv Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao and Dr Manmohan Singh, as a result of which today India is connected to the world economy and we have created the middle class," Kharge added.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi accused the Congress of "hatred and anger" towards BR Ambedkar and said they were raising slogan of 'Jai Bhim' due to compulsion.
Replying in Rajya Sabha to the motion of thanks on President's Address, PM Modi alleged that Congress did all to defeat Ambedkar in elections due to its "hatred."
He said Congress did not confer Bharat Ratna on Babasaheb Ambedkar.
"It is well documented how much anger and hatred Congress had towards Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. It is well-documented how much anger Congress had towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. They felt irritated with his words. Due to this anger, they did everything to defeat Babasaheb in the two elections (1952, 1954). They did not consider Babasaheb worthy of the Bharat Ratna. Today due to compulsions they are having to raise the slogan of 'Jai Bhim'. Congress is expert in changing colours. This can be clearly seen," PM Modi said.
