"Matter of national security if our systems become vulnerable": Aparajita Sarangi, member Ethics Committee

New Delhi [India], November 10 : Aparajita Sarangi, member of the Ethics Committee probing the 'Case for Query' scam against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has said that it is a matter of national security and the TMC MP should understand that she is a parliamentarian.
Speaking to ANI, Aparajita Sarangi said "In the meeting yesterday, it was decided that we will send the application of the suspension of TMC MP Mahua Moitra to the Lok Sabha Speaker. Voting was done yesterday, in which 6 people were in favour and 4 against. I think that the Chairman of the Ethics Committee Vinod Sonkar will send the report today or tomorrow. After that, the Lok Sabha Speaker will decide the further course of action."
She further pressed that Dubai-based Businessman Hiranandani will not be called for cross-examination as the latter has already submitted an affidavit.
"The Ethics Committee has made it clear that Hiranandani will not be called for cross-examination as he has given an affidavit. This was also discussed with the Ministry of IT, Home Affairs and External Affairs and it is a matter of national security. If we make our system vulnerable, then it becomes a matter of national security. Such a negative reaction from Mahua was bound to come. She should understand that she is a parliamentarian. She is a public representative. We all have to exercise restraint somewhere in our conduct, thoughts and values," she added.
She also mentioned that according to the rules of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the first thing is to not share your credentials with anyone.
'It is wrong if people share these credentials with anyone. You can do this with your staff, it's not a problem then but she gave the credentials to a businessman from Dubai who was interested in doing business in India. If we look at the rules of NIC, the first thing is that credentials should not be shared," Aparajita said.
"Then the matter of the money trail came up. Businessman Hiranandani has given the sworn affidavit which has authority. Whatever is written in that affidavit is true. When Mahua did Unethical work, where did match fixing come from? There are 543 members in Lok Sabha, so why only Mahua's name came up? Questions were being asked as part of the process," She added.
Earlier today, a member of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee and JDU MP Girdhari Lal Yadav alleged that the inquiry into the 'Cash-For-Query' allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra had not been done properly, stating that the meeting concluded in two minutes.
Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra has alleged that the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee which was probing her role in the 'Cash for Query' case was functioning like a 'Kangaroo' court.
"Proud to go down in parliamentary history as 1st person to be unethically expelled by Ethics Comm whose mandate doesn't include expulsion. 1st expel and then ask govt to ask CBI to find evidence. Kangaroo court, monkey business from start to finish" said Mahua Moitra in her post on X.
