Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], November 24 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader CN Ashwath Narayan on Friday criticised the Karnataka cabinet's decision to withdraw the consent given to CBI to probe the disproportionate assets case against Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and said that the Congress party has been repeatedly misusing power.
"Congress has been repeatedly misusing power. They should allow the law of the land to take its own course. I think it is a very clear-cut misuse and abuse of power and I call on the government not to get in all these things, allow the law of land," the BJP leader told ANI.
Narayan alleged that the Congress party wanted to buy time and escape.
"Whatever might be the case, ultimately it is heard in the court of law. The law of the land is applicable to every citizen of the country. Here is a lame excuse, they just want to buy time. Somehow they want to escape. This is the main intention of the Congress government," the BJP leader said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader KS Eshwarappa hit out at the state cabinet's decision to withdraw the consent given to CBI to probe the disproportionate assets case against Dy CM DK Shivakumar and said that the whole cabinet of the government is a gang of thieves.
"The whole cabinet of the government is a gang of thieves. I'm saying the decision of the Cabinet to withdraw the CBI case of DK Shivakumar is illegal. The CBI is planning to file an appeal in the High Court. The case is not allowed to be withdrawn for any reason. The government has no authority to withdraw the case. Such withdrawal of a case has never happened in the history of the country," Eshwarappa said.
"In this case, the government elected by the people has taken an illegal decision. This is the first step towards the fall of the government," the BJP leader added.
Earlier in the day, defending the state cabinet's decision to withdraw the CBI probe against DK Shivakumar in the alleged disproportionate assets case, CM Siddaramaiah said that the decision taken in the cabinet is correct.
"The decision taken in the cabinet is correct," CM Siddaramaiah said.
Meanwhile, former Karnataka CM and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa called the decision 'illegal' adding that Siddaramaiah wants to safeguard DK Shivakumar.
"We took the decision only after taking a legal opinion from the advocate general. The High Court also upheld our decision and they have not given any relief. Indirectly, the Chief Minister wanted to help DK Shivakumar; that's why he took such a decision, which is illegal. They want to safeguard DK Shivakumar for so many reasons," Yediyurappa said.
The Karnataka High Court has adjourned the hearing of the appeal filed by DK Shivakumar against the sanction accorded by the previous government to the CBI to prosecute him in the disproportionate assets case, to November 29.
