Monsoon in Himachal Pradesh to delay by a week: IMD

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 20 : The monsoon in Himachal Pradesh is expected to be delayed by around a week, the Indian Metrological Department said.
According to the IMD, the monsoon is expected to arrive around month end close to June 28, a few days later than the expected time it usually arrives, which is June 22.
The IMD has forecast a normal monsoon in the state. Ten out of twelve districts in the state have received rainfall in the last 24 hours.
"Most of the places in the state, excluding district Una and Sirmaur received rainfall during the past 24 hours. Temperatures were high in these two districts and some other parts of the state. There is a relaxation in the heatwave conditions," said Surender Paul, head of IMD Himachal Pradesh.
"As far as the forecast is concerned, the rain will continue during the next two days, and the weather will be clear during the 22nd and 23rd. After the 24th, 25th and 26th the pre-monsoon activity will start and the monsoon will approach the state by end of last week of the month," he added.
The local weather center has recorded a 67 per cent rain deficit in Himachal Pradesh for June and it is expected to be normal after the recent rainfall.
"There was a rain deficit in June in the state and it was -67 per cent and it has come down. There is a relief from the heat wave, and water level sources have been recharged. It is good for agriculture too. Now the rain will continue in the state. The temperatures have dropped by 3 degrees, and the monsoon is delayed between the 22nd to 24th it is expected by the 28th now," said Paul.
"The monsoon is expected to be normal starting from June and will continue in July and August. The temperature will be normal by today. We will have a normal monsoon, meetings have been organised with the authorities and alerts have also been issued," he further added.
