"More than 3,000 prisoners performed yoga," says Gujarat DGP KLN Rao

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 21 : On the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day, a 'Yoga Program' was organised in the Ahmedabad Central Jail on Friday.
The yoga session was organised in Sabarmati Central Jail, Mahila Jail and Talim Shala which marked the attendance of around 3,000 prisoners.
This event is organised every year for the prisoners in the Ahmedabad Central Jail.
The event was also attended by the Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat, Dr KLN Rao. From officers to the prisoners, everyone practised various yoga asanas together with great enthusiasm and dedication.
The main objective of this event was to achieve mental peace and create a balance in the daily life of the prisoners.
Speaking to ANI, the DGP of Gujarat Police, Dr KLN Rao stated, "More than 3,000 prisoners participated in the Yoga Day camp that was organised in the Sabarmati Central Jail, Mahila Jail and Talim Shala. This event is organised every year on the occasion of International Yoga Day. There was a lot of enthusiasm among prisoners to perform yoga, as everybody knows that performing yoga helps achieve balance in our daily lives and provides peace to the mind."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Modi performed Yoga at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar today. PM Modi urged people of the country to make yoga a part of their daily lives as the world celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga on Friday.
"As we mark the 10th International Day of Yoga, I urge everyone to make it a part of their daily lives. Yoga fosters strength, good health and wellness. Wonderful to join this year's programme in Srinagar," the Prime Minister posted on social media platform X.
He congratulated all the people of the country and those doing Yoga in every corner of the world and said the world is witnessing a new Yoga economy going forward for the last 10 years.
This year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasizes yoga's vital role in fostering both individual well-being and societal harmony.
