Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 10 : A special court in Indore district on Monday awarded capital punishment to two youths for abducting and killing a minor son of a Congress leader.
The convicts have been identified as Hritik (22) and Vikrant (24). They abducted the minor son of the Congress leader, a resident of Pigdambar village, Indore district and demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore. Later, they killed him out of fear of getting caught.
Lawyer of the victim's side, Ashish Sharma told ANI, "In February last year, the minor son of Congress leader Jitendra Chauhan was kidnapped by his cousin Hritik and one of his relatives. After the kidnapping, the accused had demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore but before the ransom could be paid, the accused strangled the minor boy to death. With the help of CCTV footage into the matter, the police arrested Hrithik and his accomplice Vikrant. A case was registered against them at Kishanganj police station under IPC sections 364A and 302."
During the hearing of the case on Monday, the court of special judge Devendra Prasad Mishra found both the accused guilty and awarded the death penalty to them. Besides, the court acquitted two persons in the matter, he added.
Congress leader and father of the minor, Jitendra Chauhan told ANI, "On 5 February 2023, my son Harsh was kidnapped and killed. One of the accused, Hrithik, is my nephew and the other accused, Vikrant, is Hrithik's relative. They had demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crores to release my son. Hrithik used to visit my family, so Harsh knew him and went with him that day."
"After the incident, Hrithik kept pretending to search for the child with us and kept telling everything about us to another accused Vikrant. Today the court gave its verdict and we thank him," he added.
