Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 22 : On the occasion of World Car Free Day, Indore observed No Car Day on Friday with Municipal Corporation Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, city Police Commissioner Makrand Deuskar and District Collector Ilaiya Raja travelling on two-wheelers and other modes of public transport.
Taking to X (former Twitter), Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said, "As a meaningful initiative for environmental protection, today our Indore is saying no to cars and using public transport along with two-wheelers under the No Car Day campaign. Joining this campaign of environmental protection and public awareness, today reached Rajwada on a two-wheeler and offered prayers to Mata Ahilya Devi and wished everyone happiness and prosperity."
On the occasion, Indore's Mayor further appealed to the people to avoid using cars so that the No Car Day campaign could prove to be effective.
"I also have a humble request to all of you that today instead of using your car, you should use alternative means, so that our No Car Day campaign can prove its worth," he said.
According to the United Nations Environment Programme, every year on or around September 22, cities across the globe celebrate World Car-Free Day, encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a day. The event highlights the numerous benefits of going car-free to citizens—including reduced air pollution and the promotion of walking and cycling in a safer environment.
