MP: Man held for blackmailing and extorting money from BHEL officer in Bhopal

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 4 : A man was arrested for allegedly blackmailing another man, who works at BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited), and extorting Rs 2.5 Lakh from him in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, a police official said on Wednesday
According to police, the accused has been identified as Shashank Verma, a resident under Bagsewaniya police station limits in Bhopal. The victim works as Deputy General Manager (DGM) at BHEL, Bhopal.
Govindpura Police Station in-charge Awadhesh Singh Tomar told ANI, "A victim had submitted a written application at the ACP office in which he mentioned that one of his friends had filmed an obscene video of him and was blackmailing him. The accused had also extorted Rs 2.5 lakh from the victim. Acting on the application, a case was registered against four persons under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sahita (BNS)."
The police have arrested an accused and he is being questioned. For those who were found to be involved in the matter, legal action will be taken against them, he mentioned.
"The victim has also mentioned a few names of women with whom he had relations and they were also seen in the video. An investigation into the matter is underway and further action will be taken based on the facts in the probe. The victim has also mentioned about a Russian woman in its application and the probe for the same is underway," Tomar said.
"The victim has already given Rs 2.5 lakh so far to the blackmailers and further demands of Rs 1.5-2 Lakh were made. Following which, he approached for the police help. The police registered the case and arrested the accused. The interrogation of the accused is underway and further action will be initiated based on the facts revealed in the probe," he added.
