Sehore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 18 : On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, women tied Rakhi to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore.
"This love is the love of family, the love of brothers and sisters. This love creates the resolve that I should spend every moment of my life in the service of the people. Serving the people is the worship of God for me. Serving sisters is the worship of goddesses for me," Shivraj Singh Chouhan told reporters.
The women presented a huge Rakhi to Chouhan and also tied a Rakhi on his wrist on the occasion.
"Today I got the opportunity to meet the sisters at the Rakshabandhan festival organized in Bhairunda, District Sehore. Sisters showered so much love on me, and gave so many blessings that my soul was drenched in their love. My sisters, I am indebted to you for this love. Many many salutes to you!" Chouhan posted on X.
Earlier on Saturday, Chouhan participated in the Tiranga Yatra in Budhni and Rehti locality of Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency and addressed a gathering of Ladli Behnas here.
Raksha Bandhan, commonly known as Rakhi, will be celebrated on Monday, August 19 this year. It is a traditional Hindu festival dedicated to the love and bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers' wrists. In return, brothers offer gifts as a symbol of love and care for their sisters.
Rakhi symbolises a sense of protection. On Raksha Bandhan, the brothers promise to protect their sisters from harm of any kind.
Raksha Bandhan is a festival deeply rooted in Indian Culture and has been celebrated for centuries. Incidents of sisters tying rakhi around their brothers' wrists for protection are mentioned in Hindu religious texts.
