Mumbai: Gangster Chhota Shakeel's brother-in-law dies of heart attack

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 22 : Gangster Chota Shakeel's brother-in-law, Arif Shaikh, popularly known as Arif Bhaijaan, an accused in a terror funding case, died of a heart attack at JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Arif in the terror funding case linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim along with Chhota Shakeel and since then he has been lodged in Arthur Road jail.
Arif was brought to the JJ hospital after his health deteriorated on Friday evening, where he was declared dead by doctors, the hospital said.
Arif Shaikh had complained of chest pain in the jail, a police official said.
In 2022, the NIA filed a chargesheet against wanted global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, his close aide Chhota Shakeel, and three other arrested associates, who are running a global terrorist network and a transnational organized criminal syndicate, namely D-Company, which is involved in various terrorist and criminal activities in India.
Besides Dawood Ibrahim, alias Shaikh Dawood Hassan and Shakeel Shaikh alias Chhota Shakeel, the chargesheet names three arrested accused: Arif Abubakar Shaikh, Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh and Mohammad Salim Qureshi.
The NIA said its investigations have established that the accused persons, who are members of the D-Company, a terrorist gang and an organized crime syndicate, conspired to further the criminal activities of the gang by carrying out various types of unlawful activities.
The agency said that the accused persons possessed 'proceeds of terrorism' and were involved in terror activities.
