"Mungerilal ke Sapne": Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma mocks SP leader advocacy for Muslim reservation

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 23 : After Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan expressed hopes that the INDIA bloc, if voted to power, would grant reservations to Muslims too, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday mocked these as "Mungerilal's dreams" and said that everyone has the got the freedom to dream with open eyes.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma said," These are Mungerilal dreams. We have not stopped anyone from having Mungerilal dream."
Earlier SP leader ST Hasan said, "If the Indian constitution grants reservation to the Hindu population, then why not the Muslim population? I hope that if the INDIA alliance come to power, they will amend the constitution and give reservation rights to Muslims too."
On Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court gave a blow to the Bengal government and cancelled all OBC certificates issued after 2010. The court said that these certificates were issued without following any rules. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed deep displeasure over this decision of the court.
This time during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the issue of reservation has emerged as a major election issue, where on one hand the Prime Minister and all the BJP leaders allege that the INDIA bloc will conspire to give the reservation given to backwards, Dalit and tribals in India to the Muslim community, while on the other hand, INDIA bloc alleges that if the Bharatiya Janata Party wins the election, it will completely abolish reservation and the Constitution in the country.
Notably, polling for the Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh is being held across all seven phases. Voting in the first five phases has already been completed, while the remaining phases are scheduled for May 25, and June 1.
The counting of votes for all phases has been scheduled for June 4.
