NDMC's notice on Sunehri Bagh mosque "violates Article 25 of Constitution," opines AIMIM chief Owaisi

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], December 30 : AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi reacted to the notice of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) asking for public opinion on the Sunehri Bagh mosque's proposed demolition, and said that this notification violates Article 25 of the constitution which guarantees freedom of religion which is a fundamental right.
NDMC issued a notice to invite citizens' objections and suggestions on the Sunehri Bagh mosque's proposed demolition by January 1 adding that the mosque was causing traffic jams in the area.
Reacting to this, Owaisi said, "This notification violates Article 25 of the constitution which guarantees freedom of religion which is a fundamental right. It also violates Article 29 which ensures the protection of culture. It also violates section 51-1A of the Waqf Act 1995 which says that acquisition of waqf property can be done only when there is no other option. NDMC in its notice said,"New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), under Section 202 and
Section 207, both to be read in conjunction with Section 11 Clause (n) and (p), after having received a reference from Delhi Traffic Police for providing a traffic engineering proposal to ensure sustainable mobility in the vicinity of the roundabout of Sunehri Bagh, has applied to Heritage Conservation Committee (HCC) for Removal of Sunehri Masjid (Grade-lll Heritage building, listed vide Notification dated 01.10.2009 of GNCTD), under Annexure-ll, Clause 1.16 of Unified Building Bye Laws- 2016."
"Objections and suggestions are invited from the general public in terms of Unified Building Bye-laws- 2016, Annexure-lI, Clause 1.3(ii), The objections and suggestions can be submitted by email up to 5.00 PM by 01.01.2024," it added.
