NIA chargesheets two accused in case linked to PLFI revival attempt

New Delhi [India], October 5 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted two accused in a case related to revival and strengthening of the banned Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Jharkhand and neighbouring states, as per NIA press release on Saturday.
According to NIA, supplementary chargesheet filed today named Kapil Pathak alias Rana Singh of district Dhemaji, Assam, and Binod Munda alias Sukhu of Khunti, Jharkhand.
NIA had registered the case suo motu in October 2023 in connection with involvement of PLFI cadres in generating funds through extortion from various coal traders, transporters, railway contractors, businessmen, etc. in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. These members of PLFI had llegedly also conspired to commit various terrorist activities, including murders, arson, and violent attacks, to create terror among the public, especially businessmen and contractors.
NIA investigations established the involvement of the two men in the conspiracy. Accused Kapil Pathak was found to be the Odisha state committee head of PLFI while Binod Munda was area commander of Karra area of Khunti District of Jharkhand.
Kapil Pathak and Binod Munda were also involved in raising extortion money and channelising them from Jharkhand to Assam, NIA said.
During investigation, NIA had also recovered one country-made rifle, one Country made pistol, 57 rounds of 7.62 MM prohibited ammunition and 20 rounds of .315 (8mm) from Binod Munda. The arms and ammunition were supplied by accused Kapil Pathak, NIA said.
Further investigation is underway.
