Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 8 : Congress General Secretary Rajeev Shukla said that while the opposition party has no objection to the Prime Minister going to Russia, they wanted to point out that he should be visiting violence-hit Manipur as well.
"We have no objection to PM going to Russia. PM's visit was already proposed. But we have been continuously demanding in Parliament that he should go to Manipur. Why is North East being neglected? He should go there," Shukla said speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh.
Earlier in the day, Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi reached Imphal to meet the victims of violence at the relief camps in the state.
Speaking about Kiran Chaudhury's exit from the Haryana Congress, Shukla pointed out that Chaudhury has been in the party for 30 years.
"There is a strong organization in Haryana. The process is going on there too. Kiran Chaudhary was in Congress for 30 years but now she is speaking against Congress," Shukla said.
Kiran Choudhry, the daughter-in-law of former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal was a strong face of the Haryana Congress before he jumped ship and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party last month.
Speaking about the political crisis that the Himachal Pradesh Congress had to go through when six MLAs quit the party, Shukla said, "Our MLAs were broken through money power in Himachal. Out of 6, 4 MLAs have lost the elections. BJP has ruined their political career,"
Shukla said that the Congress is on its way to win in all the three by-elections in the state.
"Now 3 by-elections are being held. We will win these elections too," he said.
Slamming the Aam Aadmi Party over the poor law and order situation in Punjab, Shukla said, "The law and order situation in Punjab is bad. The Punjab government will have to fix it. This will increase resentment among the public."
