"No perpetrator will be spared, no political immunity": Chirag Paswan on deteriorating law and order in Bihar

Mar 23, 2025

Patna (Bihar) [India], March 23 : Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday raised serious concerns over the worsening law and order situation in Bihar, particularly highlighting the rise in target killings, including incidents involving members of the Scheduled Caste and said that the accused in the incidents will not be spared.
He also assured that the state government is focused on addressing the issue promptly and taking necessary actions to prevent such crimes from escalating further.
Speaking to the media here, Chirag Paswan said, "It is a matter of concern and even one such incident raises questions against the government. We have also written to CM Nitish Kumar about the increase in such incidents. Target killings have increased recently against the people of the scheduled caste, specifically the Paswans. Crime has also increased in urban areas. We have also spoken to the CM that the crime needs to be controlled."
Paswan also sounded the alarm on potential political sabotage. He believes that certain elements, possibly backed by rival parties, are trying to tarnish the government's image, especially in an election year. He emphasised the need to identify and expose these anti-social elements, which are exploiting incidents to malign the government.
"I think there is also a political angle to it. There may be political parties who want to malign the image of the government in the election year. We have to find these anti-social elements which are trying to tarnish the image of the government with these kinds of incidents. We have to point them out and take stringent action against them. No perpetrator will be spared. No one will get political immunity no matter which party they belong to," said Paswan.
This comes after the Director of the private Asia Hospital, Surbhi Raj was shot dead inside her cabin, informed Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Patna City, Atulesh Jha on Saturday.
The victim was diagnosed with several gunshot injuries, after which she was referred to AIIMS, where she succumbed to her injuries.
"At 3:30 in the evening, we got information that Surbhi Raj, the director of Asia Hospital, had been shot. When the police team reached there, they were told that when some staff went to the director's room, they found her unconscious and covered in blood. She was shifted to the ICU, where she was diagnosed with multiple gunshot injuries, and from there, she was referred to AIIMS. Right now, the news of her death has come. The police team is collecting evidence from all angles," Atulesh Jha told ANI on Saturday.
Following this, the father of the deceased demanded a high-level inquiry into the case, alleging a conspiracy in her death.
Speaking to ANI, Rajesh Sinha, father of the slain Asia Hospital director, said, "I saw her only in the ICU. I do not know what has happened. I don't know if she has been shot. I came to know only later that she was shot. She had no dispute with anyone. I demand that the matter be investigated. There should be a high-level inquiry. There should be a CBI inquiry. There seems to be a conspiracy."
