"No vacancy for the post of PM": Shahnawaz Hussain takes aim at INDIA
Sep 02, 2023
New Delhi [India], September 2 : Coming down heavily on the Opposition bloc — INDIA — BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said on Saturday said the alliance has no leader going into next year's Lok Sabha elections and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only leader, who can take the country forward.
He added while many Opposition leaders converged for the third meeting of the INDIA bloc, they couldn't pick a single one of them to lead the alliance into the next general elections.
“The people have made up their minds to bring us back. The only leader, who can take the country forward, is Narendra Modi. Under his leadership, the NDA government will return for a third, straight term. There is currently no vacancy for the post of PM in the country,” Hussain said.
Also hitting out at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Hussain said, "Despite JD(U) members claiming they would make him the convener of INDIA, they did nothing of the kind. These meetings are all show and no substance."
He said the meetings are merely aimed at tarnishing PM Modi's image.
Also lashing out at RJD chief and former Bihar chief minister, Lalu Yadav, he said, "His party doesn't even have a single seat in the Lok Sabha and he is making absurd statements about sending PM Modi to the moon and the Sun. Prime Minister Narendra Modi resides in the hearts of the people. No one can sully his image."
Mocking the Opposition meeting, Hussain said he had doubts if the INDIA leaders actually discussed a strategy to take on the BJP-led Centre in the general elections or were simply busy tucking into the dishes on offer. "They (Opposition leaders) dug into Litti Chokha in Bihar, Idli Dosa in Bengaluru and the delectable Maharashtrian cuisine in Mumbai but didn't give a thought to the greater good of the country," he said.
On the idea of 'One Nation, One Election', he said it will save time and resources and enable governments to focus more on development.
At its third meeting on Friday, the alliance adopted resolutions to collectively contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections while announcing that seat-sharing arrangements would be finalised as soon as possible in a spirit of give-and-take.
After the third round of discussions, Bihar CM and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar said the meeting went well.
"Everyone held a press conference and put forth their views after the meeting. It was a good meeting," the Bihar CM said.
The next key meeting of the Opposition alliance will be held in the national capital, rival NCP faction leader Sharad Pawar faction) and Supriya Sule said after the meeting.
