"Not elections but war between two families": Telangana CM Revanth Reddy
Apr 07, 2024
Rangareddy (Telangana) [India], April 7 : Telangana CM Revanth Reddy came out all guns blazing at the BJP-led Centre saying that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will pit two families against each other--the NDA and central agencies at its disposal and the Congress family, many of whose members sacrificed their lives for the country.
Addressing people at the release of the Congress's 'Nyay Patra' or manifesto in the state during the 'Jana Jatara Sabha', Reddy said on Saturday, "Congress is a family. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that the upcoming elections are not just electoral contests but a war that pits two families against each other. This is an all-out war between the Congress family and the one headed by PM Modi."
"Modi's family features EVMs, ED, CBI and the Income Tax Department. Our family has martyrs--Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and a leader who sacrificed the PM's chair, Sonia Gandhi. This is a family whose members, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, have selflessly dedicated their lives to the country," the Congress leader added.
He said the Congress workers were prepared to sacrifice their lives in the fight against PM Modi's family, if needed.
"Lakhs of Congress workers are our family. We will see which of these two families prevails in these elections. We are going to war against PM Modi's family. We will fight against the EVM, ED, and the CBI. We will sacrifice our lives in this fight, if need be," CM Reddy said.
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while addressing 'Jana Jatara Sabha', listed the five guarantees (Nyay) in the party's manifesto.
In an address to supporters on Saturday, he said the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections represents the voices of the people across the country, adding that it was drafted after taking on board the suggestions of millions from the far corners of the nation.
"When we gave you guarantees, we called them the guarantees of the Congress but in reality, they are the guarantees of the people. When we talked about cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500 each, 200 units of electricity free of cost, Gruh Lakshmi, and free bus travel, we were echoing the voices of the people," he said.
"Today, everyone in Telangana can see how the Congress is fulfilling its promises. While the unemployment rate in the country is at its highest in 40 years, our government in Telangana has given government jobs to 30,000 people. Another 50,000 people will get jobs soon. This manifesto is the voice of the people of India," he added.
The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held across seven phases, starting April 19. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
