If he wants to contest the election, he should resign and then contest."
Congress' Ajoy Kumar is pitted against BJP candidate and Odisha Governor Raghubar Das' daughter-in-law, Purnima Das in the Jamshedpur East assembly constituency for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly polls.
Earlier on Friday, Congress leader Ajoy Kumar wrote to the Election Commission over Odisha Governor Raghubar Das' alleged involvement in Jharkhand election campaigning for his daughter-in-law, claiming that it is a violation of the model code of conduct. He has requested the commission to bar the Odisha Governor from participating in active politics.
In a letter dated October 25 to the Election Commissioner of India, Ajoy Kumar said, "In continuance to my letter dated 23-October (Ref 76/2024), this is to bring to your notice again that Raghubar Das, Governor of Odisha, continues to campaign for his daughter-in-law, Purnima Das contesting from 48, Jamshedpur East, on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket."
"It is also brought to your kind notice that as per the information received, the Governor of Odisha Raghubar Das was found participating in election booth committee meetings in east Jamshedpur constituency and was found distributing various materials in the public," Kumar said in the letter.

In light to the above circumstances and my repeated complaints, I request to issue appropriate directions to restrain Raghubar Das from such participation in active politics," he said in the letter.
