Odisha police nabs drug peddler with brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore in Keonjhar

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], December 19 : The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police has arrested a drug peddler and seized a huge quantity of brown sugar valued at more than Rs 1 crore during an operation in Keonjhar district.
Based on intelligence input, a raid was conducted by a team of STF, Bhubaneswar near Jodiaghati in Keonjhar on Monday evening against illegal dealing and possession of narcotic drugs.
The STF team apprehended one drug peddler, identified as Rajendra Kumar Majhi (46) of Baidyarajsahi of Keonjhar, STF said in a release on Tuesday.
During the search, contraband brown sugar (heroin) weighing 1 Kg 80 grams (1,080 gm) and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession.
The accused was arrested as he could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such contraband materials.
In this connection, STF PS Case No.32 dated 19.12.2023 U/s 21(c) of NDPS Act 1985 was registered.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
A special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing in the state. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 74 kg of brown sugar, heroin, 202 grams of cocaine and more than 116 quintals of ganja, marijuana, and opium 3 kg 630 grams and arrested more than 184 drug dealers and peddlers.
STF also destroyed over 62 Kg of seized brown sugar last year.
