Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 24 : Lashing out at the opposition over the killing of Badlapur accused Akshya Shinde by the Maharashtra police, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde said on Tuesday that the accused first opened fire, and in self-defence, the police also opened fire, and when the police did so, the opposition was sad about it.
Shinde said, "Yesterday in transit, the accused opened fire on police. In self-defence, the police also opened fire. When the police opened fire in self-defence, the opposition was sad about it. The opposition has nothing left to do. They did a 'Rail Roko' in Badlapur to spoil the law and order in Maharashtra. The opposition did the work of completely spoiling the law and order in Badlapur and instigated the people. The same people were shouting there and saying, "Hand over the accused to us". We will punish the accused. Now that the accused has been punished, they are feeling sad."
"The opposition will be so sad that in the coming times, they can even hold a condolence meeting in favour of the accused," he added.
The 23-year-old Akshay Shinde died in retaliatory fire at the Mumbra bypass on September 23 when he was being taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur for an investigation into a case filed by his ex-wife.
Meanwhile, Thane Police on Tuesday said that an investigation is underway to probe into the killing of Badlapur school sexual abuse accused in retaliatory firing by police.
According to information received from Thane Police, Shinde snatched the weapon from a police official and opened fire on him during a bid to escape police custody. He was taken to hospital, where he died. Shinde's body was transferred from Kalwa Civic Hospital in Thane to the JJ Hospital for a post-mortem on Tuesday.
Shinde's death has sparked a controversy between the ruling Mahayuti government and the opposition in Maharashtra, which is headed for Assembly polls later this year. Shinde, was arrested on August 17, five days after he allegedly sexually abused the two girls in the school toilet.
