Orange alert issued in Telangana, Dy Mayor of GHMC visits low-lying areas

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 5 : The Met Department has issued an Orange for Tuesday in Telangana.
The southern state is likely to receive heavy rainfall in central districts, North and East districts. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for tomorrow.
Director of Meteorological Centre Hyderabad Nagaratna said, "At present, the weather situation indicates that the low pressure lies over North West and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off the coast of North AP and South Odisha and its associated upper air circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards in height. There is a trough extending from the North-East Bay of Bengal to Andhra Pradesh."
Under its influence, Telangana is likely to have light to moderate rains in most places for today and tomorrow and thereafter slight reduction in rainfall activity, Nagaratna further said.
"Very heavy rainfall is going to be witnessed in some parts of North East and East districts of Telangana. Tomorrow heavy rainfall is expected in the North district of Telangana and thereafter slight decrease and light rains are likely in northern parts of Telangana," she added.
After the heavy rains in the city the Deputy mayor, GHMC officials and DRF staff visited the low-lying areas for inspection. Deputy Mayor of GHMC, Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy visited Satya Nagar and Lalapet in Tarnaka Division.
Deputy mayor Mote Srilata Shobhan Reddy said, "Measures were being taken to clear waterlogging and remove broken trees and bent poles without any problems for traffic. People should always be vigilant over heavy rain."
She appealed to the people to bring to her notice if there were any houses that were in a state of collapse.
Several parts of Hyderabad city experienced severe waterlogging and traffic jams amid incessant rainfall since Monday.
The state government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad on Tuesday in view of heavy rains.
Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty tweeted, "In light of the heavy rainfall forecast in Hyderabad, the government has declared today a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad. Stay indoors and stay safe."
