Paleru Reservoir overflows due to heavy rains in Telangana, locals complain of inadequate help from government

Khammam (Telangana) [India], September 2 : Amid the heavy rainfall for the last two days in Telangana, the Paleru Reservoir and Munneru River in the Khammam district started overflowing on Monday.
Water has reportedly entered multiple homes of villagers in Cheruvu bazar with villagers complaining that the state government is not giving adequate relief measures.
Salman, a villager said that around 20 to 25 houses in the area have been have been flooded. He claimed that apart from the local corporator, there has been no other help offered from the state government. "In our mohalla around 20 to 25 houses have been flooded, look at our stuff, we have no help or preparations for this. Our local corporator helped us a lot, but apart from that we have no help from the state government. Our locals, our women in the area helped us, and some other people in our area helped us with food. We are requesting the government to look at us and give us some help."
Another villager from Cheru Bazar, Razia complained of her house being flooded due to the rains. "A lot of water has entered our house, with our clothes and our belongings being soaked, but no one has come to help us in our time of need", said Razia.
"When it comes to votes, they come here, meet us, salute us and call us amma, but no one has come here now. The Khammam collector has not come here, we tried calling them, but no one came. Everyone in the area is really angry and upset with the government. We wanted to have some food arranged for us but nobody listened", she added.
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Telangana's CM Revanth Reddy on the phone and enquired about the flood situation in the heavy rain-hit areas and the damages caused by the floods, a release from the Telangana CMO said.
Meanwhile the IMD on Monday in its 24-hour forecast said, "Very heavy to extremly heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts of Telanga. Thunderstorm and gusty winds to occur at isolated place in many districts."
