New Delhi [India], December 3 : Expressing glee over the assembly poll results of the three states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won with a landslide victory, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Sunday that the people of the country have faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"It is evident that PM Modi, who kicked off the development work in the country nine years ago, is benefiting everyone. People now have social security and they are now living with pride. People have faith in PM Modi," Sonowal told reporters here in the national capital.
"We are grateful to PM Modi. Also, I would like to express my gratitude towards party president JP Naddaji and Union Home Minister Amit Shahji," he added.
According to the latest trends from the Election Commission of India, the BJP in the Hindi heartland, Madhya Pradesh, has crossed the majority mark, securing 166 seats out of 200 (116 needed for a majority).
In Rajasthan, out of 199 seats where the majority mark stands at 101, the BJP has secured 114, with the incumbent Congress securing 70 seats, and in the tribal heartland of Chhattisgarh, the BJP has won 45 seats out of 90, wrapping up the grand old party at 34.
While the Congress will be happy over its expected victory in Telangana, the loss in Hindi heartland states is a cause for worry for the party months before the Lok Sabha polls. Of the large swathe of the Hindi heartland, Congress is in power only in Himachal Pradesh and is part of the government in Bihar.
Meanwhile, counting in Mizoram, which went to the polls last month, will take place on Monday.
